Thanks to all friends of ChuaCC for their generous contributions in the last few months. The amount collected now stands at RM21,508.00. Tedin Ng has finalised the account and you can see the details in the right column of this page. We did well and I am sure ChuaCC would have been proud of all our efforts.

Tedin, Peter and myself met yesterday at Peter’s Cherry Cake House. We then went to the Public Bank and deposited RM20,000.00 in two lots in FD for one year. Bien was busy with family matters and was not able to join us.
We hope to find out from all of you what is the best way to start the bursary this year before the school closes. Please write your suggestion in the comments section of this blog.

Dear friends,
I have spoken with Mr Wong Poh Sim, headmaster of ACS Primary, to discuss how we may best compliment and not duplicate the school’s existing program in aiding their less privileged pupils and in rewarding outstanding ones. I now understand that there are in fact several aid programs by the Education Ministry that help alleviate the burdens faced by the pupils from low income families. These include a daily meal allowance @ RM1.80 every schoolday, uniforms and an annual RM200.00 aid sum. 72 days of free tuition classes are also sponsored by the ministry. Attendees also get a meal allowance as they need to stay back after school for the tuition conducted in the afternoons. Teachers conducting the tuition get vouchers worth RM350.00. Private bodies such as Tzu-Chi also provide aid. The teachers-in-charge make it a point to apply for such aid on behalf of the needy boys but this is not a pressing problem that requires additional support.
Last year the school produced two 5As scorers for the UPSR. However, for this year Mr Wong does not expect a better performance although he is confident of more scorers from next year’s batch. A new mountain bike awaits this year’s 5As scorer.
As previously informed, there is only one class per year. This November 19th is the school’s prize giving day and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position boys in each class/year will receive their awards, including some books (approx RM10 value) sponsored by Tai Kuang Bookstore.
Taking into account all the above and having consulted with Mr Wong, my suggestion is to give “CCC Achievement Awards” to the winners of the following categories:-
1. Top Academic Achiever
(based on final year end/UPSR results)
2. Top Extra-curricular/Sports Achiever
(Note: No scouting or BB for primary school)
3. Top Special Class Achiever
(Special class is of mixed ages and disabilities)
4. Most Improved Achiever
(based on best incremental improvements in grades and position in class over the year)
5. Best Overall Achiever
(HM’s pick)
The “CCC Achievement Award -2009″ will include RM100.00 in cash and a special “Photo-Certificate”. My idea of the photo-certificate is to superimpose the portrait photo of the winner on a specially designed background featuring CCC with details such as former HM of ACPS, BB Captain, Scoutmaster, CCC Fund website, etc besides the usual Award title, school crest and so on. Hopefully, these framed photo-certificates will more likely find a vantage spot to display in their living rooms and so in some small way help in remembrance of CCC.
It would be best to let the school incorporate the CCC Achievement Awards into their Prize Giving Day this November 19th. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.
