A day in Malacca with old ACS boys

Our group having lunch, from left: Peter Ong (71), Ray, Mak Kai Kin, Tedin, Bert ( Bert’s brother also joined us later) & Victor (photographer)

After the ACPS’s annual prize giving ceremony, our group went on to have a simple and delicious lunch at the stall in front of the school. We had ‘mee rebus’ and ‘ais kacang’ etc. the sort of snacks we would usually have in our days back when we were schooling there.

The geography of the location has not changed much, the beautiful shady trees are still there, the road into the two schools looks the same. Only we have changed. We have each become who we are and in some way our early years in school may have something to do with it, may be not.

But the most wonderful thing was how ChuaCC’s influence in our younger days there have brought us back over the years, from different classes, strips and colours,  to meet and to remember him through the Awards. It was also this month a year ago that Chua died and I am sure his spirit is still very much alive, as we can see how we had gathered in his name.

We had a memorable time siting there and talking about the old days and also watching the comings and goings of the younger boys and girls now attending the schools in the area.

Bert Tan showing us his new restaurant along the Malacca River which will be opening this month. This place by the river will serve Nyonya Peranakan cuisine and colonial food.

Next we were invited by Bert Tan to visit his new premise, Riverine Coffeehouse, at 198 Lorong Hang Jebat. This could be a place where old and new ACS boys can meet and build friendship etc.

We wish Bert Tan all the best in his new venture. His contact : 0177556767

Raymond Ong and I would like to thank Tedin Ng for driving us to Malacca for the day.
